The Skating System
TangotoCUP competitions use the Skating System for scoring — a method of compiling scores in dance competitions that emphasizes majority judgment and overall performance assessment.
Preliminary Rounds
Judges mark which couples advance. Scores are based on total "PASS" marks across all judges and all dances. Couples with the highest scores proceed to the next round.
Finals
When 6 couples compete in the final, judges assign placements (1st through 6th) for each dance. Final results are calculated using the standard skating system formula, which determines the overall winner based on majority placements.
Ranking System
TangotoCUP operates a dynamic ranking system for tango competition participants. Rankings are tracked separately for Leaders and Followers across Tango Salon and Tango Escenario categories with world rankings in all categories.
How Points Work
- Points accumulate as competitors participate in events
- Rankings update automatically in real-time after each competition
- Points carry forward between seasons at a reduced rate: 20% of earned points plus accumulated points transfer to the new season
Calculation Formula
The ranking formula considers multiple variables including competition type, number of participants, and jury panel size. This approach ensures fairness across different competition scales — a smaller regional preliminary and a large international final are weighted accordingly.
Season Structure
Rankings are season-based. The current system launched after the 3rd TangoToIstanbul CUP event and continues with each new competition as the season progresses.
